He is survived by: his children, Sam Richard of Newton and Suzie Lowe (Jerry) of Newton; his sister Mary Anne Stroupe of Lincolnton; his grandsons, John, Aaron and Samuel Jr.; and his great grandchildren, Raven and Iris A.
