With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Gary Detter of Newton, North Carolina, who passed away on May 5, 2023 at the age of 85. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Oliver Wardell Detter and Ava Elizabeth Cline Detter; and his former wife Donna Glynn York Detter. He is survived by: his wife Sandra Detter; his daughters, LaGina Gibson (Gene) of Sherrills Ford, Sandra Bumgarner of Newton, Shannon Bishop (Randy) of Mountain View, Beth Dennis (Steve) of Sylvia, NC and Mary Andrews (David) of Cameron, NC; his aunt Dorothy "Dot" Cline Pierce of Newton; his siblings, Libby Detter of Greensboro and Norris Detter (Billie) of Mountain View; his grandchildren, Valerie Barney, Ryan Gibson, Will Bumgarner, Austin Bumgarner, Majerle Bishop, Corbin Bishop, David Andrews and Elizabeth Andrews; his great grandchildren, Colton Barney, Elyse Barney, Kynsley Bumgarner, Ava Bumgarner and Shaelynne Allen; and his close friends, Virgil Woodruff, Cap, Terry and Teresa Shook.
