He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Chester Arthur Smith and Lillie Mae Walker Smith; his children, Teresa Borum (Ronald), Leisa Smith and Danny Smith; and his grandchildren, Taylor, Jacob and Derick.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Ray's name to: NC Wildlife Federation, 1346 St. Julien Street, Charlotte, NC 28205.
