He was predeceased by: his parents, Eva Carpenter and Robert Carpenter; his wife Dixie Carpenter; his grandson Ian Calloway; and his siblings, Melvin Carpenter, Mason Carpenter, Lee Vonda Pyatte, Amos Carpenter and Andy Carpenter.
He is survived by: his daughters, Christine Calloway (Terry) of Three Mile and Joyce Nations (Tom) of Crossnore; his granddaughters, Cailan Calloway (Shawn) of Morganton and Ceara Cuthbertson (Chris) of Morganton; his great grandchild Lola Cuthbertson of Morganton; his sisters, Della Mae Ellis of Morganton and Elwanda Cook of Clemmons; his stepgrandchildren, Karen Deweese of Clyde, Karla Payne (Matt) of Weaverville and Tommy Nations (Stephanie) of Waynesville; and his stepgreat-grandchildren, Kailey, Jillian Payne of Weaverville, Lydia and Eden Deweese of Clyde. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
