He was predeceased by: his parents, Verdie Daniels Ray and Sam Miller Ray, Sr.; his wife Patsy Ruth Ray; his daughter Rebecca "Sissy" Ann Ray; and his brother Jim "Goose" Ray.
He is survived by: his son Sam L Ray III (Susan); his grandchildren, Christy Ray, Justin Ray (Britney), Jordan Mesaros (Matt), Sam Ray, IV and Brandon Ray; and his great grandchildren, Ayden Ray, Caleigh Ray and Lachlan Lacey.
