He was predeceased by: his parents, Wilbur Mattes and Edith Thomas Mattes; his son Randy, Jr.; and his sisters, Phyllis Bachman and Janice Pullen.
He is survived by: his former wife Shelia Schoen; his stepchildren, Tracy, Billy and Katie; his son Jesse Mattes of Greeley, CO; his grandson Brody Mattes of Shenandoah, IA; his stepgrandchildren, Katelyn Lewis and Bastian Lewis of Shenandoah, IA; and his brother Jim Mattes of Branson, MO. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Cancer research or the Carolina East Medical Center in New Bern, NC.
