It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Maxine Smith in New Bern, North Carolina, born in Dothan, Alabama, who passed away on June 16, 2023, at the age of 91, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, W. H. Tew and Lochie B. Tew; her brothers, Talmadge Tew, James Tew and John Tew; her grandson Robert "Bobby" Thaxton Smith; and her daughter-in-law Janie Smith.
She is survived by: her brothers, Carl Randolph Tew (Ardyeth) and Max Tew (Ruthie); and her children, Steven Smith, Ricky Smith (Frances) and Rebecca Smith. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.
