Josephine Carter Avery Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Josephine Carter Avery (New Bern, North Carolina), who passed away on January 22, 2023 at the age of 83. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was loved and cherished by many people including: her grandparents, Elijah Sylvester McCarthy (Old Daddy), Addie Rowell McCarthy, Thomas Seaborn Carter (Papa) and Delilah Jordan Carter (Mammy); her significant other Herbert Curtis Avery, Sr.; her children, Kathi Avery King (Garland) of New Bern, Curt Avery of Hyde County, NC, Thomas Avery (Mally Weaver) of Boone, NC, Phillip Avery (Crystal Tyler) of Lubec, ME and Terri Avery Van Sickle (Terry) of New Bern; her grandchildren, Billie Kate Durst (Rob), Allan Southerland, Kelly Jones Toler (Randy), Ayden Cox (Kyle Whisenant), Evan Avery, Aaron Avery, Justin Avery, Cole Avery, Olivia Van Sickle, Sophia "Finn" Van Sickle and Harley Avery; her great grandchildren, Randy Toler, Allana Durst, Dagen Toler, Trent Durst, Emma Toler, Addie Avery and Oren Whisenant; her sister-in-law Jean Avery Edge; and her caregivers, Melanie, Dr. Matthew Grove, Dr. Robert Holmes, Dr. Brian Averell, Bayview Rehab and CarolinaEast. She was also cherished by cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors, and honorary children.
