He was predeceased by: his wife Jean Horner Barker; and his parents, Joseph Closs Barker, Sr. and Nonie Benton Barker. He is survived by: his children, Sallie B. Szymczyk (Stephen) of Oriental, Patricia D. Barker of Raleigh, Joseph C. Barker, III (Marianne) of Trent Woods and Daniel T. Barker of Raleigh; his grandchildren, Mary Katherine Azamar (Ivan), Aaron T. McCaffity (Suzanne), J. Closs Barker IV, Madison L. Barker, D. Thomas Barker and Isabelle L. Barker; and his great grandchildren, Kiara, Kinslee and Blake.
