He was predeceased by: his parents, James William Hodges (Bill) and Fannie Pearl Dixon Hodges. He is survived by: his children, Neldina Maynard (Bill Maynard) of Weddington, NC, John Hodges, Jr. (Janet Hodges) of New Bern and Daretha Hodges of Kings Mountain, NC.; his grandsons, Jason Maynard and Daniel Maynard; and his extended family Little Washington.

A funeral service was held on Thursday, October 10th 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Cotten Funeral Home (2201 Neuse Blvd, New Bern, NC 28560).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Hospice of Pamlico County or Meals on Wheels.
