He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul Lewis, Sr. and Lillian Hagans Banks; his siblings, Paul Lewis Banks, Jr., Elizabeth Banks Jones, Carlton Bryan Banks, Franklin Delano Banks and Joseph Lathan Banks; his wife Dorothy Jefferson Banks; and his sister Ruth Banks Moore.

He is survived by: his children, Donna Sandvig (Glenn), James B. Canady Jr. and Paula C. Coker (Bobby); his grandchildren, Rachel, Audrey, Jessica, James B. III, Paige, Andrew and Bryce; and his great grandchildren, Carter, Harper, Carolina, Gracelyn, Ainsley and Kennedy.
