He was predeceased by: his parents, Benjamin F. Allen and Lottie Baker Allen; his wife Anne Lewis Bratton of Raleigh; and his sons-in-law, Vincent Robert Russo, MD and William Earl Brinkley.
He is survived by: his daughters, Anne Allen Russo of Baton Rouge, LA and Elizabeth Allen Brinkley of New Bern, NC.; his grandchildren, John William Allen Brinkley of Apex, NC, Elizabeth Russo Stringer (Scott Steven Stringer) of Roanoke, VA, Anne Bratton Russo of Baton Rouge, LA, James Drake Brinkley (Allison Humphries Brinkley) of Greenville, NC and Vincent Robert Russo, Jr. (Suzanne McRobbie Russo) of Atlanta, GA.; his great grandchildren, Alexis Christian Brinkley, Ashten Leann Brinkley of Clayton, Sophia Adele Stringer of Roanoke, Charlotte Rebecca Russo and William Robert Russo of Atlanta; and his friends, Leroy Price, John Griffin, Bobby Lee Garris and Jack Cotten. He is also survived by his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He laid the foundation of gratitude and humility for his family to remember and emulate.
