She was predeceased by: her son Andy Mathews; and her parents, Elwood Coggin and Alice Coggin. She is survived by: her husband Howard; her children, Clayton Mathews (Anne) of Gainesville, FL, Susan Oliver (William) of Hastings, NE and Lyn Mathews of Lynchburg, VA; her grandchildren, Timothy, Mackenzie Mathews, Benjamin, Addison Mathews, Eleanor, Laura Kate and Meredith Oliver; and her siblings, Emily Gulledge (Earl), Anita Peach (Don) and Woody Coggin (Brenda).

In addition to flowers, monetary donations can be sent to the First Baptist Church of New Bern Music Program.
