He is survived by: his wife Iris Herring; his children, Vance Herring of New Bern and Teri Johnson of Kinston; and his siblings, Earl Herring of Kipling and Elizabeth Hockaday of Bunlevel. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
