He is survived by: his son Donald L. Koonce, Jr. of New Bern; and his sisters, Janet Bonner of New Bern, Brenda Simmons of New Bern, Cynthia Patrick of New Bern and Latham Simmons, Jr.. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren.
