He was predeceased by: his parents, Claude W. Middleton and B. Elizabeth "Betty" Middleton; and his wife Marilyn Wright. He is survived by: his children, Sharon Rhoton of New Bern, NC and Alan Middleton of Columbus, OH; his grandchildren, Kimberly (Columbia, MD) and Robert of Richmond, VA; and his great grandchild Alexis (Columbia, MD).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Dana's honor to Merci Clinic in New Bern (merciclinic.org) or Public Radio East (publicradioeast.org).
