Bruce Robert Garney Obituary
With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Bruce Robert Garney of New Bern, North Carolina, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on February 19, 2025 at the age of 77. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Garney and Mary Scott Garney; his niece Julie Assaf; and his brother-in-law John Lussier. He is survived by: his wife Mary Gemma Dowd; his sister Barbara Lussier of Syracuse, NY; his nephew Joseph Assaf (Katie) of Syracuse; his great-niece Julie; his great-nephews, Michael, Peter and Billy; his stepdaughter Sara Ferree (Mark) of San Francisco, CA; his stepgrandchildren, Zoe and Davia; his stepson Kevin Dowd of Hong Kong; his children, Sasha, Sienna, Lucas, Robert Dowd (Victoria) of England, Abigail and Oliver; and his brother-in-law James Gemma (Stephanie). He is also survived by several cousins and many friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 25th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Cotten Funeral Home (2201 Neuse Blvd, New Bern, NC 28560). A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, February 25th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Doctors Without Borders, organizations that were close to Bruce's heart.
