He was predeceased by: his parents, Merritt Lindsay and Margaret Jane Benfield Johnson; his siblings, Ray, Harold, Paul, Junior Johnson, Earl Benfield and Cleola Morgan; and his son-in-law James Cox.
He is survived by: his wife Maude Harmon Johnson; his daughters, Margaret Lane (Donnie) of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Sharon Cox of Nebo, NC; his siblings, Helen Braswell (Charles) of Taylorsville, NC and C. W. Johnson of Taylorsville, NC; his grandchildren, Chris Lane (Nicole), Heidi Lane Cox (Ray) and Jeff Cox; and his great grandchildren, Miller and Marlee Cox. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
