He was predeceased by: his father John Gilliam; and his siblings, Helen Haynes, Evelyn Craig, Vena Gilliam, Blonnie Buchanan, Ruby Gilliam, Frank Gilliam and Holmes Gilliam.
He is survived by: his wife Doris Ledbetter Gilliam; his sons, Roger L. Gilliam (Karen) and Reverend Keith H. Gilliam (Lana); his sisters, Norma Bruner and Doris Miller (Clyde); and his grandchildren, Jennifer Decker (Bradley) and John Gilliam (Sidney).
