He was predeceased by: his former wife Sophie Turner Matthews; and his brother Colin Matthews. He is survived by: his wife Jean Coppedge Matthews; his children, Bill Matthews (Margaret), Bob Matthews (Anna), Rex Matthews and Jewel Ballard (Joel); and his siblings, Carl Matthews, Larry Matthews (Donna) and Nell Killette. He is also survived by six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren.
