She was predeceased by: her parents, Alex Gurganus and Linda Whitley Gurganus; her husband James "Tip" Alton Burgess; and her siblings, Shirley Gurganus Braswell, Rose Marie Edwards, Cecil Gurganus, Milton "Buster" Gurganus, McDonald Gurganus and Robert Earl Gurganus.
She is survived by: her son James "Tip" Alton Burgess, II of Greenville; her stepdaughters, Patricia B. Belton of Wilmington, Grey B. Christian of Greensboro and Robin B. Congleton (Ed) of Greenville; her grandchildren, James Burgess, III and Addie Burgess of Stokes; and her sister Ethel Gurganus Farmer. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
