She was predeceased by: her parents, Maggie Hamby and Pryor Hamby; her former husband Goldman Mickens; her husband Bill Mashburn; her son Joseph Mickens; her siblings, Clifford, Thomas Hamby, Clinton Hamby, Joe Hamby, Thurman Hamby, Dee Hamby, Gwendolyn Hamby Beavers, Ruby Hamby Mashburn, Lucy Hamby Truett, Alene Hamby Morrow and Irene Hamby; and her stepmother Bessie "Maw" Hamby.
She is survived by: her children, Dee Mickens (Sheila Dillard Mickens), Joan Higdon (Gary) and Ava Anderson (Tom). She is also survived by twelve grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, January 22nd 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Ivie Funeral Home (194 Peachtree St, Murphy, NC 28906). A funeral service was held on Thursday, January 23rd 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Church of God (6530 NC-294, Murphy, NC 28906).
