He is survived by: his mother Edna Arp Shields; his brothers, Tom Shields (Lisa) of Murphy, NC and Tim Shields of Jasper, Georgia; and his nieces and nephews, T. J. Shields, Tori Elrod, Amber Shields, Aaron Shields (Haley) and Christina Worley (Clay).
