He was predeceased by: his parents, Gay Murphy and Lottie Murphy; and his siblings, J. D., Grady, Herman, Glenn Murphy and Corena Wilcox.
He is survived by: his wife Helen; his children, Bethany (Joe), Jim (Debra), Paul (Brenda) and Perry (Sue); his siblings, Calvin (Geraldine) and Kathryn; his grandchildren, Jaime, Adam, Drew, Sean Patrick, Logan, Trevor and Nicole; and his great grandchildren, Ryan, Jarred, Natalie, Violet and Kylie. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, January 8th 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Ivie Funeral Home (194 Peachtree St, Murphy, NC 28906). A celebration of life was held on Thursday, January 9th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the same location.
The family requests memorials be made in memory of James Olen Murphy to Shriner's Children's Hospital c/o Thomas Sumpter 5 Fain Street Murphy, North Carolina 28906.
