He was predeceased by: his parents, Julian Joseph Brett and Mildred Virginia Worrell Brett; his brother Donald Thomas Brett; and his great-nephew Tanner Francis. He is survived by: his wife Jennifer Umphlette Brett; his daughters, Michelle Black (Rodney) of Murfreesboro and Jerri Kaye Birdsong (Robby) of Conway; his grandsons, Owen Black and Blake Birdsong; his nieces, Donna Francis and Tracy Pearce (Paul) of Murfreesboro; his great-niece Lauren Pearce; his great-nephew Nathan Pearce (Heather); and also Everly of Murfreesboro.
Visitation was held on Monday, April 7th 2025 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at the Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service (205 NC-42, Ahoskie, NC 27910). A celebration of life was held on Tuesday, April 8th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Meherrin Baptist Church (519 Meherrin Ln, Murfreesboro, NC 27855). A burial was held on Tuesday, April 8th 2025 at 11:30 AM at the Riverside Cemetery.
