He was predeceased by: his parents, Lathan Fielding Smith (Jigs) and Mae Rankin Smith; and his siblings, George Smith (Sonny), Lathan F. Smith, Jr., Wayne P. Smith, Thomas N. Smith (Nick), Billy Ross Smith, Carrie Jane Smith and Mafielda Brown.
He is survived by: his wife Peggy West Smith; his children, Gerry R. Smith of Mt. Ulla and Karen Smith Edge (Greg) of Davidson; his grandson Corey West Edge of Davidson; and his sisters, Sue S. Meadows of Troutman and Sybil S. Little of Troutman.
