He was predeceased by: his parents, Gilmore Bowlen and Luada Pritchett Bowlen; and his granddaughter Heather McMillan. He is survived by: his wife Bonnie Stricker Bowlen; his daughter Tonja McMillan; his stepchildren, Amy Gibbons, Rebecca Wheeler and H. Wayne Wheeler; and his siblings, Sue Fenner, Norman Bowlen, Richard Bowlen and Bill Bowlen. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
