Amy Elizabeth Reigel Obituary

Amy Elizabeth Reigel, 79, passed peacefully on December 30, 2024, following a brief stay at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House - Huntersville. Born on September 25, 1945, in Breathitt County, Kentucky, to Robert Potter and Lula Richardson Potter, Amy lived a life full of love, strength, and kindness. She is preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Hershel Potter, Bob Potter, Mary Ruth Macie, and Debbie Potter; and grandson Matthew Miller.

On September 13, 1963, Amy married Michael A. Reigel in Erie, Pennsylvania. Michael survives her, along with their children, Anjie Vickers (Greg), Bernadette Kiser, Michael Reigel, Sean Reigel (Tonia), and Jeremy Reigel (Sara). Amy was a proud grandmother to Amanda Miller Talley (David), Nathaniel Vickers, Kathlene Schane (Blake Thomas), Michael Reigel, Shane Reigel (Trinity Bolt), Jacob Reigel, Anthony Reigel, and David Percy, and a loving great-grandmother to Taylor Talley, Easton Talley, Oaklyn Thomas, and Myles Reigel. She is also survived by siblings Barbara Jo Haddix, Fairlena Meehl (Don), and Larry Potter (Nancy). She was close to her sisters-in-law Susan Potter, Judy Alderman, and Renee Ferrara.

In over 60 years together, Amy and Mike shared many adventures, including six cruises, numerous anniversaries at the Big Lynn Lodge in the Blue Ridge Mountains, and travels to many Navy reunions. Amy also loved traveling solo to North Carolina and Arkansas to visit the grandchildren she loved so dearly.

Amy was known for her beautiful red hair, her love of jewelry, and her fondness for hummingbirds, ladybugs, and flowers. She enjoyed reading, listening to country music, taking long walks with her husband, gardening, and watching the hummingbirds she adored. Even with Alzheimer's, she remained the strong, funny, and loving person we all cherished deeply. She taught us how to love unconditionally, laugh often, and find joy in the little things (such as plastic gold dollar sign necklaces she treated as fine jewelry).

We take comfort in knowing that Amy's memories are restored and that those who went before her–Lula, Angie, Hershel, Bob, Mary Ruth, Debbie, Jennifer, and Matthew–are rejoicing with her in Heaven.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at Gordon Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, North Carolina. The time will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Levine & Dickson Hospice House - Huntersville, 11900 Vanstory Drive, Huntersville, NC 28078.

Amy's legacy of love, strength, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
