He was predeceased by: his parents, Raymond Eugene and Lola Hardy Sasser; and his brother Gene Sasser. He is survived by: his wife Teresa H. Sasser; his children, R. Michael Sasser (Tori) of Magnolia, Matthew P. Sasser (Jenny) of Mount Olive and Vanessa Cotton of Calypso; his grandchildren, Kristalyn Lancaster, Jordan Heath, Ashley Heath, Lola M. Sasser, Brittni-Kate, Knox Sasser and Raelyn Lancaster; his sisters, Violet Goodson (Kermit) of Mount Olive, Linda Kearney (Russell) of Goldsboro and Brenda Bazemore (Ted) of Goldsboro; and his sister-in-law Susie Sasser. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
