He was predeceased by: his son Frederick Bruce Southerland, Jr.; his parents, Eddie Norman Southerland and Pennie Summerlin Southerland; and his siblings, Lawrence Jason Southerland, Eddie Nelson Southerland, Dexter Wayne Southerland, Norma Jean Southerland Blalock and Sandra Southerland Taylor.
He is survived by: his children, Freddy Norman Southerland (Candice) of Mount Olive and Lisa Southerland Hood of Mount Olive; his grandchildren, Daxton Southerland, Mason Dixon, Megan Hood, Ivy Hood and G. I. Hood; his great grandchild Manfred Hood V; his siblings, Winifred Southerland Bell of Mount Olive, Elizabeth "Punk" Southerland Knowles (Albert Ray Knowles) of Mount Olive, Wayland Southerland (Joan) of Mount Olive, Shelton Southerland (Jo) and Gregory Southerland of Kenansville; and his niece Cathy Holmes S. Graham of Mount Olive. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
