She was predeceased by: her parents, Thomas James and Annie Ruth Southerland; and her son Rodney. She is survived by: her daughter Deirdre Miller Cherry (Michael); her granddaughter Sheena M. Riddick of Durham, NC; her sisters, Helen S. McGowan (James) of Kenansville, NC, Shirley S. Mills (Randolph) of Durham, NC and Gloria M. Carter (James) of Fayetteville, NC; her sisters-in-law, Nannie Barfield and Mildred Miller of Kinston, NC; her aunt Mavis Southerland of Kenansville, NC; her nephew Kevin Miller of Kinston, NC; and her cousins, Lafayette Hall, Doreen Manley and Thomas L. Southerland. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
