He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest Yates Nixon and Katie Carroll Nixon; and his brother Carl Nixon. He is survived by: his children, April Nixon Proctor (Allen), Claudia Lynn Nixon, Stephen Wayne Nixon (Kathy) and Michael Greg Nixon (Amy); his siblings, David Nixon (Sheryl) and Nancy Nixon Little; and his grandchildren, Katie Proctor, Hannah Nixon, Joshua Nixon, John Nixon, Paige Nixon and Eli Nixon.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to The National Parkinsons Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800 Miami, FL 33131 or Hospice of Lincoln County, 900 Dontia Dr., Lincolnton, NC 28092.
