It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Rita McElwaine of Mount Holly, North Carolina, born in Gaston, North Carolina, who passed away on October 15, 2024, at the age of 89, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Gurley Wilson and Eva Wilson (Waters); her husband Dan McElwaine; her sons, Danny and Michael McElwaine; her grandson Daniel McElwaine; her daughter-in-law Donna McElwaine; and her siblings, Bill, Betty, Jerry, Joe, Libby and Tony.
She is survived by: her daughter Sonja Johnson (Mitch); her grandchildren, Michael McElwaine Jr. (LeighAndra), Casey McElwaine (Brittanie), Stevi Wike (Justin Verwey), Tyler McElwaine (April), Drew Johnson (Tonya) and Chad Johnson (Taylor); her great grandchildren, Bennett, Sawyer, Roman, Bradley, Ruby and Witten; and her close friend Jerry Gordon.
Visitation was held on Saturday, October 19th 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church (5481 Hickory Grove Rd, Stanley, NC 28164). A memorial service was held on Saturday, October 19th 2024 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
