With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Floyd Ballard of Mount Holly, North Carolina, who passed away on December 4, 2020 at the age of 86. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his wife Geraldine Hoffman Ballard; his parents, Luther Ballard and Nellie Senter Ballard of Iron Station; his siblings, Bub Yates Ballard of Lincolnton, Jerry Ballard of Gastonia, Martha Mize of Alexis and Lorene Ward of Iron Station; and his son Thomas Caldwell, Jr. of Lincolnton.

He is survived by: his daughter Melanie Ballard Caldwell of Lincolnton; his siblings, Alice Ballard White of Hamptonville and David Ballard of Iron Station; his close friend Joyce Herring of Lincolnton; and his brothers-in-law, Charlie Mize of Alexis, Steve Hoffman of Matthews, Mike Hoffman of Gastonia and Bruce Ward of Granite Falls. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

“Floyd has been a constant presence and a dear friend for as long as this neighborhood has existed. Having lived next door to him for 42 years, it’s hard to imagine him not being there, but I will certainly cherish the memories of the many conversations I shared with him. Floyd was always willing to help with anything, from scraping the road before it was paved, to household carpentry projects, to just offering advice when needed. My prayers will remain with Melanie and the family. Tim Eanes.”
