We are sad to announce that on February 23, 2025, at the age of 81, Joan Lyon Ayers of Mount Gilead, North Carolina, born in Elmira, New York passed away. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Joan Lyon Ayers to pay them a last tribute.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Sherman Randolph Lyon and Ruth Addie Mizener; her spouse William'Bill'Ayers; her siblings, Shirley VanNostrand, Emory'Bruce'Lyon and Gary Lyon; and her granddaughter Alicia Mortenson.
She is survived by: her children, Julie Mortenson (Todd) of Manor, TX, William Jr. (Rita) of Locust, John (Sherri) of Mt. Gilead and Wendy Ayers (Stanley) of Troy; her grandchildren, Michael Ayers (Krista), Debra, William III, Cassandra, Kassandra, Shelby, Matthew and Kamryn; her great grandchildren, Trinity, Vaughn, Courtney, Alexis, Evelyn, Trenton and Amber; her great great grandchildren, Kyrie and Kyair; her siblings, Nancy Fitzwater of Gillett, PA and William'Bill'Lyon (Charlotte) of Elmira, NY; her siblings-in-law, Debby Lyon of Shiremantown, PA. and Daniel Ayers; and her close friends, Linda Snead and Melissa Morgan-Beaver. She is also survived by Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 1st 2025 from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at the Twin Harbor Worship Center (220 Deer Park Rd, Mt Gilead, NC 27306). A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 1st 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Joan's name to Tillery Compassionate Care 901 N 1st St, Albemarle, NC 28001.
