He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Allen and Ora Geneva Cockerham Niston; his former wife Diane Niston; his daughter Brandy Niston; and his brothers, Simon Lee Niston, John Willard Niston and Roosevelt Niston.

He is survived by: his wife Sherry Booker Niston; his son Steve Allen Niston, Jr.; his daughter-in-law Sonja; his daughters, Shelia Inman (Robert Keith) and Michelle Barker; his stepchildren, Joshua Vipperman, Leann and Lora Vipperman; his grandchildren, Heather Marion, Alexander Inman, Taylor Inman (Jamie), Whitney Venable (Zack), Kaitlin Barker and Hayley Inman; his great grandchildren, Mason Jones, Jacob Marion, Konner Jones, Noah Jones, Adalynn Inman, Aubree Inman and Everly Venable; his siblings, Lois Vernon, Kaye Thomas and Gary Niston; and his sister-in-law Jackie. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
