With heavy hearts, we announce the death of John Matthews of Mount Airy, North Carolina, who passed away on October 6, 2021 at the age of 91. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of John Matthews to pay them a last tribute.

He was predeceased by: his parents, John Thomas and Lydia Patterson Matthews; his daughter Robin Matthews; and his sisters, Blondell Jones and Nell Adcock.

He is survived by: his wife Mary Simmons Matthews; his children, Thomas Stuart Matthews of Ararat, NC and Susan Matthews (Allen Lee) of Raleigh, NC; and his sister Rilla Matthews Gregg of Kernersville, NC.. He is also survived by three grandchildren.

Flowers are appreciated, or donations may be made to the Simmons Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund at 443 Simmons Grove Church Rd., Pilot Mountain, NC 27041.
