He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Webber Smith and Labe Smith; his grandparents, J. C. and Nettie Digh of Morganton; his wife Jerroll; his son Wesley of Morganton; his grandson Wesley II; his great grandchild Monroe Caldwell; his siblings, Don Gilbert (Lynn) and Becky Clark (Rusty); his grandchildren, Cassidy and Lil Wes; and his great grandchild Corbin.
