He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, John Edward Dawson and Maymie Louise Jones of Jasper; his children, Dr. Linda J Dawson of Chapel Hill, NC and Thomas F Dawson Jr. (Sharon) of Holly Springs, NC; his grandchildren, Rebecca, Zachary Dawson, Eric McGorrill-Glass, Jessica Glass, Sarah Glass and John Glass; his wife Barbara Barbee Dawson; his daughter Sheryl A Dawson; and his brother Edward M. Dawson. He was also cherished by several nieces and nephews.
