He was predeceased by: his parents, William Edwin Barnes and Lillian Mildred Rawlings Barnes. He is survived by: his sons, Roy Rawlings Barnes Jr. of Morehead City and John Thomas Barnes II (Beverley) of Newport; his siblings, Lillian Barnes Dewey of Wilmington, Elsie Barnes Cothran (William) of Birmingham, AL and Thomas Harrison Barnes of Wilmington; and his grandchildren, Chelsea Marie Garner (Griffin) of Benson, Hailey Padgett Barnes of Beaufort, Lauren Elizabeth Barnes of Newport, Landon Paul Barnes of Beaufort and Ashton Thomas Barnes of Newport.
In keeping with the CDC guidelines pertaining to the Coronavirus, those who are ill or at-risk (elderly, immune-compromised) are encouraged to stay home.
