He was predeceased by: his parents, Rev. John Guy Gilbert and Myrthal Perkins Gilbert; and his sister Carol Brumley. He is survived by: his wife Gena; his children, Bryan Gilbert (Ashley) of Six Mile, SC, Ashley Fisher (Kevin) of Pickens, SC, Sherry Hull (Ed) of Denver, NC, Kelley Toler (Doug) of Morehead City and Michell Gillman (Dan) of Newport; and his sisters, Wanda Maggard (Bob) of Cincinnati, OH and Joyce Ann Rouse (Sean) of Plains City, OH. He is also survived by grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
