He was predeceased by: his parents, T. B. Smith and Evelyn Smith; his son Todd Davis Smith; his sister Josephine Smith; his nephew Grayson Edward Lawrence; and his parents-in-law, Roland Davis Lawrence Sr. and Janice T. Lawrence.
He is survived by: his wife Becky Lawrence of Morehead City; his son Gerry Theodore "Ted" Smith Jr. of Beaufort; his granddaughters, Madison Hope Smith of Morehead City and Peyton Elizabeth Smith of Morehead City; his siblings, Phillip Burton Smith (Wanda) of Davis and Raelene "Plum" Rosselli (Chic) of Raleigh; his brother-in-law Roland Davis Lawrence Jr. (Lisa) of Beaufort; his nieces, Dana Smith Nelson (John) of Davis, Anna Smith of Davis and Kara Smith (Tommy Fulcher) of Davis; and his nephew Roland Davis Lawrence Ill (Savanna) of Beaufort.
