He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Bowen and Emma Bowen; and his siblings, Earlena Bowen, Woodrow Bowen, Tommy Bowen and Henry Bowen.
He is survived by: his wife Betsy Davis Bowen; his son Gene Gilbert Bowen Jr. of Morehead City; and his siblings, Barbara Nell Renfro of Wilson and Malcom "Mac" Bowen (Judy) of Clayton.
