She was predeceased by: her parents, James Albert Pilkington and Minnie Broyhill Pilkington; her husband Luther M. Shumate; her son Gary Shumate; and her grandchild Minton.
She is survived by: her children, Myra Pruitt of Statesville, Annette Jarvis of Moravian Falls, Loretta McGee of Union Grove, Boyd Shumate of Moravian Falls and Wayne Shumate of Moravian Falls; and her sister Zella Barringer of Richmond Hill, GA. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 25 greatgrandchildren.
