She was predeceased by: her parents, Otis Messick and Florence Pippin Messick; her husband James Small; and her siblings, Melvin Messick and JoAnn Shumake.

She is survived by: her children, Ronnie Small (Laurie), Donnie Small (Terri Smith), Steve Small (Selena), Tim Small (Tammy) and Crystal Small Rambo (Justin); her brother Leroy Messick; and her close friend Pat Clubb. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Missionary Methodist Church, 311 Clover St, Mooresville, NC 28115.
