He was predeceased by: his brother Daniel Starkey. He is survived by: his wife Marcia Starkey (Helow); his children, Sharon Starkey (Gary Webb) of Huntersville, NC, John L. Starkey III (Kayoko) of Honolulu, HI, Laura Hanby (John) of Charlotte, NC and Susan Stephens (Brian) of Belmont, NC; his siblings, Shirley Foutz of Martha Lorenz and David Looney; and his grandchildren, Hailey Bramley, Kara Bramley, Yoji, Maya, Ami, Noa Starkey and Ethan Hanby.
