He was predeceased by: his father Reverend Jim Frank Carr, Sr.; and his brother Richard Smith Sr.. He is survived by: his wife Sarah McConnaughey Carr; his children, Umekia Carr of Mooresville, Jim Dewon Carr (Jehan) of Troutman and Dr. Clarissa Carr Johns (Phil Johns) of Mooresville, NC; his sisters, Idola Blackwood of Salisbury, NC, Oyima Ellis of Mooresville, NC and Emma Watts (Steve) of Spencer, NC; his sister-in-law Ruth Smith of Salisbury, NC; his aunt Eunice Wilson of Charlotte, NC; his grandchildren, Lamario Johnson, Kyyonna Gray, Mynesha Phifer, Sedasia Carr, Olivia Carr and Zion Carr; and his great grandchild Jayden Patterson. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.
