He was predeceased by: his parents, James C Brackett and Ruth T Brackett; his sister Janice Williams of Troutman; and his great grandchild Joseph Mark Kern of Deridder, LA.. He is survived by: his wife Dorothy; his sister Norma Nantz of Mooresville, NC; his children, James D Brackett Jr. of Lexington, NC and Lynne Brackett Brackett Gardner (Joe) of Alexandria, LA; his granddaughters, Elizabeth Gardner (Brad Younts) of Chicago, IL. and Rachel Gardner of Deridder, LA.; and his great grandchildren, Jaycelyn Billedeaux of Bullard, TX and Benjamin Head of Jena, LA..
