He was predeceased by: his parents, John Coit Murdock and Velma Hartsoe Murdock; his wife Barbara Millsaps Murdock; and his siblings, Betty Jean Murdock, Larry Allen Murdock (Gayle), Katherine M. Brawley (Zeb) and Rachel M. Martin (Frank).
He is survived by: his daughters, Karen Murdock and Kristen Carter (Jesse); his sister Carol M. Sanders; his sister-in-law Gayle Murdock; and his grandchildren, Jesse Carter, Jr. and Kate Carter. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
