He was predeceased by: his parents, Lloyd Atkinson and Hazel Atkinson (Tobie); and his wife Caroll Atkinson. He is survived by: his brother John Atkinson (Elizabeth); his children, Doug Atkinson (Laura), Lisa Kloss and Laura Ballenger (Scott); his grandchildren, Heather Atkinson, Shannon Kopchinski (Ray), Dillon Krupka and Hayley Atkinson; and his great grandchildren, Nathan Kloss and Kaleb Kerr.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
